What is Meet & Greet parking?
With Meet & Greet, you drive to the terminal and hand your keys to a driver, who takes your car to a secure compound and brings it back to the terminal when you return. With Park & Ride, you park at the compound yourself, keep your keys and take a shuttle to the terminal. Common Risks
The primary risk in the airport parking industry comes from unregulated "rogue" operators who lure customers with prices that look impossibly low. These unlicensed firms frequently cut corners by:
Unsecured Parking
Instead of using gated compounds, rogue traders may dump vehicles on residential streets, industrial wastelands, or open fields where they are vulnerable to theft and damage.
Insurance Gaps
Many unofficial drivers are not covered by professional indemnity or road risk insurance, leaving you liable if an accident occurs.
Unauthorised Use
There have been documented cases of rogue operators using customer vehicles for personal errands or "joyriding" while the owner is abroad.
How a well run Meet & Greet handover works
There should be a clear chain of custody for your car:
- The handover. A driver meets you at the meeting point on your booking confirmation. At Heathrow this is the terminal Short Stay car park, except Terminal 4, where Short Stay is closed and handovers take place at the Terminal 4 Long Stay car park.
- The inspection. The driver checks the car with you and takes timestamped photos of its condition and the odometer.
- Secure transfer. Your car is driven straight to a gated compound and back again. It is not used for errands or left on a street.
What to check before you book
- Company identity. A UK company number you can look up on Companies House, a working phone number and clear terms and conditions.
- The compound. A dedicated, gated site with fencing, lighting, CCTV and staff or patrols, not a street or open land.
- Driver standards. Drivers who are insured to drive customer cars and DBS-checked.
- Handover evidence. Timestamped condition and odometer photos at drop-off and on return.
- The meeting point. An official meeting point in writing on your confirmation.
- What is included. Which car park charges are included and which costs are yours, such as ULEZ if your vehicle isn’t ULEZ-compliant.
Red flags: when to walk away
- A price that looks impossibly low for the dates, with no clear list of what is included.
- No written booking confirmation, or a request to pay everything in cash at the kerb with no booking reference.
- A request to meet at a petrol station, hotel or side street instead of the meeting point on your confirmation.
- No company number, no working phone number, or no answer to simple questions about the compound and insurance.

How Air Park Pro Protects You
We act as a go-between for you and the providers we book with. Every provider we book with must be APP Certified, our own vetting programme, which involves:
- Site checks: we check each site is a dedicated, gated compound with fencing, lighting and restricted access.
- Insurance verification: we check that each provider holds professional indemnity and road risk insurance, and that drivers handling your car are insured and DBS-checked.
- Security: compounds must have working CCTV and staff on site or security patrols.
Your part at handover
- Call the driver number on your confirmation about 20 to 30 minutes before you arrive.
- Confirm the driver’s name and your booking reference before you hand over the keys.
- Take your own timestamped photos of all four sides of the car and the dashboard mileage. Our terms ask for these if you ever need to make a damage claim.
- Remove valuables and documents from the car.
- If you notice any damage on return, report it to the driver before you leave, so a written report can be made.
